PE and Sports Premium Grant: Review 2021

Miss Briddon is the PE subject leader at Higham St John's C of E Primary School.

Miss Briddon says 'PE has always been one of my favourite subjects. I have a love of the outdoors and have an interest in several different sports. During primary school, PE was one of my favourite subjects. It allowed children to show their talents and develop a range of skills. It is integral for building teamwork skills, communication with others and shows the importance of participation. At Higham we provide the children with plenty of opportunity to stay active through the use of sports coaches at lunchtimes and opportunities for the children to use our trim trail.'

At Higham, we value the importance of encouraging children's physical development.  We ensure the children receive their full entitlement to the P.E. curriculum plus we supplement this with access to sporting activities run every lunch time by sports coaches from Sports Cool as well as special activity days and event, including residential trips, throughout the school year.

Physical activity can contribute greatly to the children's confidence, wellbeing, health and happiness.  We also teach the children about the importance of healthy lifestyles through our PSHE curriculum and ensure we provide healthy lunch options in our school kitchen.

58% of children in 2022-23 met the NC standards for swimming.
