Welcome
On behalf of the children, staff and governors at Higham St. John's, I would like to wish you a warm welcome to our school website. Higham St. John’s is a wonderful place to be and I feel privileged to be a part of our very special community.
We aim to provide an education that develops all children to their full potential. We seek to ignite curiosity and a life-long enthusiasm for learning within a safe, happy and creative environment. Our Christian ethos and values underpin all we aim to do and we encourage our children to respect one another and be kind. We have high expectations at Higham St. John’s and support every child to try their best in all they do. The children come to school keen to learn and willing to work hard and as a result, make very good progress and achieve well across the full range of subjects.
We nurture children's individual talents through providing a diverse curriculum and by offering a wide range trips, experiences and extra-curricular activities. If you would like to arrange a visit to our school or would like further information, please visit our contacts page.
Best wishes, Mrs Shaw

Meet our Advent Angels!
Are you tired of those naughty elves?! Meet our antidote - Advent Angels! They are here to spread kindness and goodness to every class and in our school community. Each class has a different named Advent Angel. They are all named after Archangels.
In the picture is the Elm Class Advent Angel, Gabriel (or Jibril in Arabic), the messenger angel. Gabriel has settled well into class and is helping the children make good choices - not wrong choices like those elves!!
In Gabriel's bag is a class 'Book of Goodness'. Each day, we would like a different child to take Gabriel home and record an act of kindness they do at home to help out at this busy time of the year. The children will then bring the book and bag with the angel back to school and share news of their good deed.
The teachers are really looking forward to hearing every morning about the children's acts of kindness. Our Advent Angels will help our children to 'Keep in step with the Spirit' both in school and at home in their communities.
Help us to spread love, joy, kindness and happiness at this special time of the year!
Pumpkin Carving Competition!
On Tuesday 14th October 2025, children are reminded to bring their entries into school for the pumpkin carving competition! Children should bring their entries into the classroom with them in the morning from where they will be collected and taken into the hall to be judged by our School Council representatives. There will be a prize for the winner and runner up in each year group.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you write your child's FIRST NAME plus the initial of their last name, and their YEAR GROUP on the BOTTOM of the pumpkin. This is so that we can identify our winning entries but we don't want full names of children because the pumpkins will all be displayed outside along the path at the front of the school.
Entry into the competition was included FREE if you have bought a ticket for the school disco on Thursday.
All of the pumpkins need to be collected either at the end of the school day on Thursday 16th October or immediately following the disco that same evening.
Tom Palmer Author Visit: books on sale
The children enjoyed meeting children's author Tom Palmer yesterday. Tom spoke to the children about his career as an author and his love of reading and writing. School have a small selection of Tom's books which will be on sale until Thursday at £7 per book. Once we have ended the book sale, Tom will send some personalised signed book plates for us to stick into your child's choice of book.
